Zach Corliss | Assistant Coach
Zach Corliss recently completed his second season as a full-time assistant coach for the Armstrong State men's basketball team in 2016-17.
Corliss has spent the last two seasons as a graduate assistant for head coach Evans Davis. A former player for the Pirates in 2008-11, Corliss graduated with his bachelor's degree in physical education in 2012 and received his master's degree in adult education from Armstrong State in 2015. He was a member of the Pirates' NCAA squad as a freshman in 2008-09.
A native of Fletcher, N.C., Corliss was a two-time All-Conference and All-Area performer at West Henderson HS while also earning All-Conference honors in football.
Cazzie Russell | Assistant Coach
The legendary Cazzie Russell begins his third season as an assistant for the Armstrong State men’s basketball team in 2016-17.
A member of the Collegiate Basketball Hall of Fame, the first overall draft pick in NBA history in 1966, an NBA champion with the New York Knicks in 1970 and a 12-year veteran of the NBA, Russell’s contributions to both collegiate and professional basketball are numerous.
He was the head coach of the Savannah College of Art & Design’s men’s basketball team for 13 seasons but remained in the Coastal Empire area after the school discontinued basketball as an intercollegiate sport in 2009.
Russell joined head coach Evans Davis’ staff as a volunteer assistant coach for the 2014-15 season and has been instrumental in mentoring not only the Pirate student-athletes but the coaching staff as well.
He will be able to return to the University of Michigan and Crisler Arena - dubbed the “House That Cazzie Built” - when Armstrong State faces UM in an exhibition contest on November 4, 2017. It will be the first time that Russell will be on the court for a UM contest since 1966.
Jalen Butler | Graduate Assistant Coach
Jalen Butler begins his second season as a graduate assistant coach for the Armstrong State University men's basketball program.
Butler played collegiately for three seasons at LaGrange College, twice earning USA South Academic All-Conference honors. He played his freshman year at Reinhardt College and was a three-time GISA All-Region honoree for Curtis Baptist in Augusta.
He graduated from LaGrange College in 2015 with a double major in political science and exercise science. Butler is currently pursuing his master's degree in communication and leadership from Armstrong State.
